To celebrate my love for all things America I decided to bake some over the top decorated cupcakes.



They are simple vanilla cupcakes from joyofbaking.com (seriously, I love this website) with the vanilla buttercream frosting with blue food colouring added and red sprinkles to decorate!
I used these awesome blue and red checkered cupcake holders that Cristi gave to me, so cute :)




And I have finally decorated my baking area of the kitchen by putting up some cork boards to store my cookie cutters on!



Other things we did to celebrate the 4th of July: Grilled corn on the cob, grilled asparagus with lemon zest, hot dawgs, pickles and what I have renamed mayonnaise salad (there were very little potatoes in this version).

Tonight hopefully the thunderstorm warnings will let up enough for some fireworks! Hooray America!

This afternoon I was pretty tired so I had a nap, I seemed to fall into quite a deep sleep and had a strange dream in which I was part of a secret team whose mission was to find these alien artifacts and figure out what they were and use them to destroy something else. Anyway it was all a bit vague but we found an egg case type thing and ripped it open to reveal two shiny metallic egg halves. One was smaller than the other and we immediately realised that it was the smaller one that we wanted so proceeded to try to break the larger half open to figure out what it was, when we did it shattered into tiny crystals that were either white or yellow. Some fell through a grating and downstairs where we were afraid people would find them and become suspicious. I woke up when I was carefully going downstairs to recover the lost gems.

This is not an unusual dream for me by any standards but what is weird is how deeply I can sometimes get into dreams. For instance, when I awoke the bottom of my foot was sore as if I had stood on one of the crystals. And while I was sorting through my laundry about half an hour later I found a black and beat up round disk (at first I thought it was a button) and my immediate thought was "Is this another lost artifact?!". What the hell guys? Do you get into dreams so much that when you wake up you still want to associate things in real life with them or is it just me?

I can often do this with people as well. If I have a dream where someone is mean to me and I wake up and talk to them I will often be inexplicably short and grumpy at them. So if this has happened to you, chances are I had a dream and you were nasty to me! Tell me to snap out of it!
